Food Crisis Support
Thanks to Donations from Friends and Family - we provided food for approx. 2,400 people to help them make it through to till harvest. We did not want to perpetuate a culture of handouts, so instead of making the maize completely free we subsidized it to a cost which chiefs and community members agreed was fair and achievable. All 265 households came to collect, paid, and went home with 60kgs of maize to make their staple food of nsima. |
Water and Sanitation Pilot Project
Through working with local chiefs and a Water and Sanitation Health Committee - we put 160 water filters into every household within an entire village. In order to receive the filter every household had to attend a 4 hour WASH training. After two months the families were then asked to begin making monthly installments on the filter (try and buy method) which would provide clean water to their family for 3 years. After just one money people began paying for their filters and could see noticeably better health within their household. Again, the developing world does not need handouts - they just need the technology and support to pull themselves out of the cycle of poverty. |
